Elmhurst is one of the most active western suburbs we work in. The blocks around downtown are full of vintage Prairie School homes, century-old Victorians, and gracious Tudor Revivals. South of St. Charles Road you'll find 1950s and 1960s brick ranches, 1970s split-levels, and a growing collection of newer construction where teardowns have made way for larger family homes. Each style brings its own kitchen-renovation challenges, and our crews have worked on all of them.
Most Elmhurst kitchen renovations we run fall into one of three categories. The first is updating an older home's kitchen — typically opening up a closed kitchen to the dining or family room, replacing dated cabinetry, and bringing the layout in line with how families actually cook today. The second is a full gut renovation in a mid-century ranch or split-level that hasn't been touched since the 1980s or 1990s. The third is finishing the kitchen in a newer construction or recent addition where the previous owner's choices no longer fit.
Whichever category your project falls into, our process is the same. We come out for a free in-home consultation, measure the space, look at how you actually use the kitchen, and discuss what is and isn't working. Within seven days you receive a written line-item estimate covering demolition, structural work, plumbing, electrical, cabinets, counters, tile, appliances, lighting, paint, and final cleanup.
What our Elmhurst kitchen remodels typically include:
We pull every required permit through the City of Elmhurst and schedule the inspections at every milestone — rough plumbing, rough electrical, framing, insulation, and final. Our crews are familiar with the local building department's expectations, the contractor parking rules in residential blocks, and the noise ordinances that apply to weekday work.
Pricing for an Elmhurst kitchen remodel varies widely. A clean refresh — new cabinets, counters, appliances, no layout changes — typically runs $50,000 to $90,000. A full gut renovation with custom cabinetry, stone counters, panel-ready appliances, and structural work runs $90,000 to $180,000. Larger primary kitchens in newer Elmhurst homes with full Sub-Zero/Wolf packages and custom millwork can run $180,000 to $350,000+.
Most full Elmhurst kitchen renovations take eight to twelve weeks once cabinetry is ordered and on the way. Cabinetry lead times are typically the gating factor — semi-custom cabinets ship in six to eight weeks, fully custom can run twelve to sixteen weeks. We coordinate the schedule so demo and rough work can begin while cabinets are being built.
If you live in Elmhurst and you are thinking about a kitchen renovation, we would love to come walk through the space with you. There is no pressure and no sales pitch — just an honest conversation about your kitchen, a realistic budget range, and a clear path forward.
Recently Completed
We recently completed a full kitchen and family room renovation in a 1970s split-level on Cottage Hill Avenue in Elmhurst. The owners had outgrown the original closed-off galley kitchen and wanted an open layout that connected the kitchen to the family room and breakfast area for their three school-aged kids.
We removed two walls, installed a steel beam to carry the load, and reconfigured the layout around an 8-foot center island with seating for four. The cabinetry is custom Shaker-style in a soft white with brushed nickel hardware. Counters are quartz with a waterfall edge on the island and a tile backsplash with an inset slab behind the 36-inch Wolf range. We added a 36-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator, a panel-ready Bosch dishwasher, and a built-in Miele coffee system.
We also reworked the breakfast room with a built-in banquette and matching cabinetry, refinished the existing oak floors throughout the first floor, and added a full mudroom build-out near the side entry. The full project took ten weeks including City of Elmhurst permit and inspections. The owners told us the new layout has completely changed how their family uses the home.

Yes — this is one of the most common projects we do in Elmhurst. We bring in a structural engineer when needed, install a steel or LVL beam to carry the load, and handle all of the framing, drywall, and finish work to make the opening look seamless.
Not the existing one — but we set up a temporary kitchen station for you in another room with a sink (or utility-room access), fridge, microwave, and counter space. We help you plan the transition before demo day so you're never caught off guard.
