Wilmette is one of the most established North Shore communities we work in. The housing stock is varied — from historic Frank Lloyd Wright-era homes near the lake and the Bahá'í Temple, to mid-century ranches in the central village, to newer construction in the southwest blocks near Edens. Each style brings its own kitchen-renovation expectations, and we tailor our work to fit the home.
Most Wilmette homeowners we work with are looking for one of two things. The first is a primary kitchen upgrade — turning a tired 1980s or 1990s kitchen into a modern, open, working space with custom cabinetry, stone counters, and a full appliance package. The second is a complete gut renovation, often as part of a larger first-floor reconfiguration that opens up the kitchen to the dining room and family room.
Wilmette is a village with strong community standards and a thoughtful permit process. We pull permits through the Village of Wilmette and coordinate inspections at every required milestone — rough plumbing, rough electrical, framing, insulation, and final. Our crews are familiar with the local building department's expectations, the contractor parking rules, and the noise ordinances. We also coordinate with structural engineers and architects when wall removal or layout changes require stamped drawings.
A typical Wilmette kitchen renovation includes:
We treat every Wilmette kitchen remodel as a full project — not just the work inside the room. That means careful protection of original hardwood floors and stair treads, daily cleanup, and clear communication about when crews will be on site. Most full kitchen renovations take eight to twelve weeks from demolition to final walk-through, depending on cabinetry lead time.
Pricing for a Wilmette kitchen remodel typically ranges from $60,000 for a refresh with semi-custom cabinetry to $200,000+ for a full gut renovation with custom cabinetry, premium stone counters, and a complete Sub-Zero/Wolf appliance package. High-end primary kitchens in larger Wilmette homes with butler's pantries and custom millwork can run $200,000 to $500,000+. Every estimate is line-item itemized with material allowances and a real timeline so you can plan around the work.
We work alongside our clients' architects and designers when there is one, or we can recommend trusted local design partners when there isn't. Either way, we handle the construction side end-to-end so you have one point of contact for the whole project.
If you are a Wilmette homeowner thinking about a kitchen renovation, we would love to come out for a free in-home consultation. There is no pressure and no sales pitch — just an honest conversation about your space, your timeline, and what is realistic for your budget.
Recently Completed
Last fall we completed a full kitchen renovation in a 1960s split-level home on Greenwood Avenue in Wilmette. The owners had been living with a closed-off galley kitchen separated from the dining and family rooms by two walls. They wanted a single open space that could handle weekday family dinners and weekend entertaining.
We removed both walls, installed a steel beam to carry the load, and reconfigured the layout around a 10-foot center island with seating for five. The cabinetry is custom flat-panel rift-cut white oak with black hardware. Counters are quartz with a waterfall edge on the island and a full-height slab backsplash behind the 48-inch Wolf range. We added a 36-inch Sub-Zero column refrigerator, a Sub-Zero column freezer, and a panel-ready 30-inch beverage center.
The full project took eleven weeks including Village of Wilmette permit review, structural engineering, and inspections. The owners told us their family now spends every evening together in the new space.
