Winnetka is one of the most architecturally significant communities on the North Shore. The village is home to historic Tudor Revivals, gracious Colonial Revivals, English country houses, mid-century moderns by some of the region's best-known architects, and a growing collection of newer construction in the western blocks. The kitchens in these homes are often the heart of the family's life and the centerpiece of the entertaining the home was designed for. Renovating a Winnetka kitchen means honoring the architecture while delivering a working space that fits how families actually cook and live today.
Most Winnetka kitchen renovations we run fall into one of three categories. The first is updating the primary kitchen in a historic home — preserving the home's architectural character while modernizing layout, appliances, and millwork. The second is a full gut renovation that often includes adjacent spaces like butler's pantries, mudrooms, and breakfast rooms. The third is a complete first-floor reconfiguration that opens the kitchen to the family room, dining room, or sunroom.
These projects almost always involve an architect or interior designer. Our crews work alongside your design team end-to-end, handling all of the construction, structural engineering, plumbing, electrical, millwork, stone, and finish work in-house or with our long-time trade partners.
What our Winnetka kitchen renovations typically include:
We pull every required permit through the Village of Winnetka and coordinate inspections at every milestone. Our crews are familiar with the village's expectations, the architectural review process for visible exterior work, and the noise ordinances that apply to weekday construction.
Pricing for a Winnetka kitchen renovation reflects the scope and finish level of the projects. A primary kitchen renovation with custom millwork, stone counters, and a full Sub-Zero/Wolf appliance package typically runs $150,000 to $350,000. Larger projects that include butler's pantries, prep kitchens, mudrooms, and adjacent-space work run $300,000 to $700,000+. Every estimate is line-item written with material allowances, labor breakdowns, and a clear timeline.
Most full Winnetka kitchen renovations take twelve to sixteen weeks from demolition to final walk-through, with cabinetry lead time often being the gating factor. Fully custom cabinetry typically takes twelve to sixteen weeks to build, and we schedule demo and rough work to overlap with the cabinet build so the project doesn't sit waiting.
If you live in Winnetka and you are thinking about a kitchen renovation, we would love to come walk through the space with you. We will give you an honest assessment of what is possible, a realistic budget range, and a clear path forward.
Recently Completed
We recently wrapped up a full kitchen and butler's pantry renovation in a 1928 Tudor Revival on Sheridan Road in east Winnetka. The owners wanted a kitchen that worked for their growing family while honoring the architectural details that drew them to the home — leaded glass windows, oak ceiling beams, original plaster moldings.
We removed the wall between the original kitchen and the breakfast room, installed a steel beam, and reconfigured the layout around a 10-foot center island. The cabinetry is custom inset rift-cut white oak with bronze hardware, designed to feel original to the home. Counters are honed Calacatta Vagli marble with a full-height slab backsplash behind the 60-inch La Cornue range. We installed paired Sub-Zero column refrigerators and freezers, integrated Miele dishwashers, and a panel-ready Wolf steam oven and warming drawer.
The adjacent butler's pantry was rebuilt with floor-to-ceiling glass-front cabinetry, a prep sink, an under-counter ice maker, and a beverage center. Original leaded glass windows were restored, the plaster ceiling was repaired, and the oak floors throughout the first floor were sanded and refinished. The full project took fifteen weeks including Village of Winnetka permits, structural engineering, and inspections.
